Serve-a-Thon Service Projects

Service Project Brainstorming

Our goal is to become leaders who see and serve the needs around us. Sometimes seeing those needs requires effort. It comes more naturally to some than others. We hope that your team will put in the work to discover needs around you that become your service project.

A few questions to ask your team

  • What skills, interests, passions are represented in your group?

  • Who do you know in your neighborhood, church, or extended family who needs help?

  • What local ministries are you connected with?

Some General Ideas

  • Outdoor projects:  Raking, gardening, winterizing, yard work

  • Cleaning projects:  Hauling, organizing

  • Handyman projects:  Painting, repairing

  • Food projects:  Freezer meals for families in need, meals for homeless shelters

  • Childcare:  Babysitting for a parents night out

  • Music making:  Doing a concert or recital at nursing homes

  • Community: Picking up trash on the prairie path, or along a roadway, helping with a local ministry like a food pantry or homeless shelter

If Your Team is not Coming up with a service project

  • Include the kids; they may have eyes to see something you missed.

  • Ask at your church if they are aware of anyone in need.

  • Contact your steering committee member for suggestions or recommendations.

Joining a Large-Group Project

Please note the DeadlineS to sign up for large-group service projects

Greenhouse has arranged three service projects with local ministries which can accommodate large groups of people. If your team is unable to come up with a project of its own, and the team is available on one of these times, then a large-group project may work well for you.
